Beijing 2008
Olympic Sport and Art Contest

The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) in conjunction with the United States Sports Academy will conduct the 2008 Sport Art Competition. The competition is a national art contest requesting artists to submit sculptures or graphic works with the theme “Sport and Olympism.” Winners of the 2008 Sport Art Competition will advance to the international competition, the Olympic Sport and Art Contest, conducted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The 2008 Sport Art Competition is open to artists who are U.S. citizens and the deadline for entry is Feb. 1, 2008. Artists interested in submitting entries should go to att.ussa.edu for specifications and entry details.

As part of its celebrations for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing in 2008, the IOC and its Commission for Culture and Olympic Education encourages all National Olympic Committees (NOC) to foster an active synergy between the worlds of art and sport at national and international levels and to heighten perception of the link between sport and art.

Each NOC can submit one sculpture and one graphic work to the international phase of the competition. Following the national competitions, the Commission for Culture and Olympic Education will set up an international jury, formed by authorities on art from all five continents along with representatives of the IOC and the Olympic Museum. The international jury will award prizes ranging from $10,000-30,000 for each of the two categories of works of art entered in the international phase of the contest, which will be held from Mar. – Aug. 2008. Additionally, the top sculptures and graphic works will also be displayed at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
