Colleen Hayduk (Kutztown, Pa./Team Fuji-Salamander) earned her third and fourth stars-and-stripes jerseys of the week by winning the women’s 17-18 points race and later teaming up with Coryn Rivera (Tustin, Calif./Kahala-LaGrange) for a victory in the women’s team sprint. In the points race, Hayduk won three of the event’s seven sprints and scored 25 points to beat silver medalist Lauren Shirock (Emmaus, Pa./BMW-Bianchi) and third-place finisher Catherine Fiedler (Long Beach, Calif./Home Depot Center) who collected 23 and 22 points respectively.

Following the points race, Hayduk and Rivera paired up to clock a winning time of 48.970 seconds in the team sprint. After securing the top seed in the qualifying round with a 48.787, Hayduk and Rivera beat Mary Costelloe (Emmaus, Pa./East Coast Velo) and Shelbe Eck (Kutztown, Pa./Tri-State Velo) for the national title.

Throughout the four-day competition, Hayduk also captured national titles in the sprint and 500-meter time trial events. Her performances in those two races earned her an automatic nomination to represent the United States at the UCI Junior Track World Championships in Mexico this August. Hayduk’s 500-meter time trial time of 36.656 seconds also broke an 11-year-old national record.

In the men’s 17-18 10-kilometer scratch race, Lanell Rockmore (Bethlehem, Pa./Young Medalist Cycling), attacked the field with one lap remaining in the 30-lap race and held off top sprinters Shane Kline (Bally, Pa./Team Fuji-Salamander) and Justin Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Rock Racing) for the national title.

Nik Reinert (Mertztown, Pa./Team Fuji-Salamander) also concluded his national championships with a fourth stars-and-stripes jersey as a member of the winning team pursuit squad. Reinert teamed up with Williams, Ignacio Silva (San Diego, Calif./Team Rock) and JP LeClair (Moraga, Calif./Adobe-Schwalbe) to post a winning time of 4:44.317 in the four-kilometer race. The foursome of Epes Harris (Macungie, Pa.), Thomas Marrs (Edmond, Ok.), Parker Thompson (Bartonville, Texas) and Austin Stewart (Dallas, Texas) clocked a 4:49.147 to earn the silver medal, while the bronze went to Kyle Foley (Wallingford, Conn.), Chris Stern (West Milford, N.J.), Daniel Sullivan (Bloomfield, N.J.) and Christopher Thornton (Surry, N.H.).

For Williams, the team pursuit victory was his second national title of the week after winning the keirin on Saturday. Williams victory in the keirin, plus his 200-meter time trial time, earned him an automatic nomination to the world championships team.

Reinert also captured national titles in the points race, individual pursuit and madison, but despite all those national titles, he missed out on an automatic nomination to the world’s team after missing the time standard in the pursuit and the points race didn’t meet the required average speed.

In the men’s team sprint final, Rockmore added a second national title to his list of accomplishments. Along with Daniel Walker (Houston, Texas/Northwest Cycling Club) and Ted Shepherd (Orefield, Pa./Young Medalist Cycling), the trio clocked a winning time of 1:05.779 to beat the second-place team of Sullivan, Thornton and Kevin McGuire (Miami, Fla.) in the head-to-head final. Placing third was the team of Kit Karzen (Beverly Hills, Calif.), Daniel Heeley (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) and Jesse Marans (Newport Coast, Calif.).

The other two national titles awarded on Wednesday were to the overall winners of the 15-16 omniums. Karzen captured the overall title in the men’s division, while Rivera scored a commanding victory in the women’s class.

Karzen placed third in the 500-meter time trial, third in the eight-kilometer scratch race and second in the 15-kilometer points race to score a winning tally of 11 points. Jacob Rathe (Portland, Ore./Beaverton Bicycle Club) finished second overall with 10 points after winning the scratch race and placing third in the points race. Broday Walker (Wichita Falls, Texas/ Richardson Bike Mart) won the points race on Wednesday and placed fourth in the 500-meter time trial to finish third overall with nine points.

In contrast to the close nature of the overall men’s 15-16 standings, Rivera scored victories in the 500-meter time trial and 10-kilometer points race and placed second in the six-kilometer scratch race to take a 19-10 victory over Jessica Prinner (South Elgin, Ill./Athletes by Design). Prinner’s points came from a win in the scratch race and a third-place effort in the points race. Shelby Reynolds (Cypress, Texas/Sugar Cycles) placed third overall with seven points thanks to a second-place finish in the points race and a fourth-place effort in the 500-meter time trial.
