Colorado Springs, Colo. (May 7, 2007)—USA Cycling named Jess Schwartzkopf as Director of Sponsorship and Business Development on Wednesday.
Schwartzkopf comes to USA Cycling from EchoStar Satellite L.L.C., (DISH Network) where he held the position of marketing manager since April of 2004. While at EchoStar, Schwartzkopf executed several initiatives within its marketing communications, product marketing and national account sales and marketing divisions. Recently, Schwartzkopf assisted in the development of a multi-million dollar sponsorship package of Roush Fenway Racing, a competitor on NASCAR’s Nextel Cup and Busch racing series.
Within his prior role at EchoStar, Schwartzkopf was tasked with the creation of sponsorship sell-through programs designed to offset initial sponsorship investments and was given the goal of acquiring $43 million in gross revenue from new business acquisition.
As Director of Sponsorship and Business Development at USA Cycling, Schwartzkopf’s primary responsibility will be to build a revenue stream to better enable the national governing body to achieve its strategic marketing and sales objectives. His main objective is to develop substantial sponsor, supplier and affinity partner relationships within the business community, lead USA Cycling’s effort to execute all necessary research, due diligence, business development plans, negotiations and agreements and implement business development strategies.
Schwartzkopf will also lead the organization’s sponsorship sales efforts and will be responsible for packaging USA Cycling’s properties and assets into saleable programs that appeal to and fit the needs of potential corporate partners.
Additionally, Schwatzkopf will lead USA Cycling’s efforts to develop affinity partnerships with industry partners in the cycling community to add further value to USA Cycling’s membership benefit package.
“The addition of Jess to our staff represents a major step forward in the continuing evolution of USA Cycling and our business development goals,” stated Steve Johnson, USA Cycling Chief Executive Officer. “We are putting a great deal of emphasis on creating partnerships in the cycling industry and providing greater value for our members. Additionally, Jess’s appointment will greatly enhance our efforts to develop high-level partnerships with non-endemic corporate sponsors as we strive to generate additional revenue for athletic and membership programs.”
Prior to his role with EchoStar, Schwartzkopf worked in the cycling industry as the marketing coordinator/sales lead at Paketa Cycles/Malmgren Imports, L.L.C.
The T. Malouf & Co. Executive Search firm in Denver assisted in the search and referred Schwartzkopf to USA Cycling from a pool of 119 applicants.
