By Terry Kolesar Luder // July 10, 2007
TACEN, Slovenia—US Olympian Scott Parsons of Bethesda, Maryland became the first American man to win a Whitewater Slalom Canoe/Kayak World Cup medal since 2001 on Sunday finishing just behind hometown hero Jure Meglic. Parsons followed his 1st place finish in Saturday’s qualifying round with two solid runs on the class 4 rapids to take the silver medal behind Meglic and ahead of Germany’s Fabian Doerfler. It was the first medal for an American in the European dominated sport since Rebecca Giddens captured a silver of her own at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. The World Cup concludes July 15 in Augsburg, Germany while the season ends with the World Championships in Foz Do Iguassu, Brazil September 19-23.
