Pennsylvania youth, high school star sets female youth series record
By Mark Miller // USA Bowling // May 31, 2007
Already a star in state youth and high school competition, Samantha Santoro of Reinholds, Pa., added another milestone May 3 when she rolled 845 for three games, the highest series by a United States Bowling Congress female youth bowler.
Santoro's 279, 266 and 300 games in the Junior Thursday Scholarship Doubles League at Dutch Lanes in Ephrata, Pa., moved her past the 843 by fellow Pennsylvanian Emily Snyder in Whitehall in 2000 and Jessica Worsley in Lakewood, N.J., in 2003.
"After I was finished bowling and I had realized I broke the record I was ecstatic," the 17-year-old Santoro said. "Practicing and working on my game has really paid off and I proved to myself that I can achieve any goal that I want to achieve."
Santoro is no stranger to success. The Cocalico High School junior won the girls singles title in the Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Championships in March after placing second in the state high school championships the year before. She also won the 2006 Pennsylvania State USBC Youth Association girls singles title.
"Winning the Pennsylvania High School girls state singles title this year and the USBC Pennsylvania State girls singles title in 2006 does not compare to breaking the national and state record," Santoro said. "This record means so much to me because it has made me a more competitive bowler then I already was."
This was the second career 800 for Santoro, who had an 813 in 2006. She now has five 300 games. Upcoming on her bowling agenda is the USBC Junior Gold Championships and Youth Open Championships in July in Buffalo, N.Y. She also plans to bowl in college after completing her senior year in 2007-08.
