USA Basketball Selects Relocation Finalists
By Craig Miller // USA Basketball // March 12, 2008
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Mar. 11, 2008) -- USA Basketball, the national governing body for men’s and women’s basketball in the United States, announced today that it has selected the finalist cities for the location of its headquarters and national training facilities following the conclusion of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. The cities are Glendale, Arizona; Indianapolis, Indiana; Louisville, Kentucky; and Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Basketball's present location.
USA Basketball issued a request for proposal (RFP) in September of 2007 to solicit proposals from cities interested in serving as USA Basketball's future host community. Currently, USA Basketball’s executive offices are based in Colorado Springs, and it trains its teams at the United States Olympic Committee’s training center (also in Colorado Springs) and various other venues around the United States.
“We are very pleased with the tremendous interest in our organization that has been shown by many cities across the country, and we are grateful for the effort and creativity that went into each of the relocation proposals," said Val Ackerman, President of USA Basketball. “Based on the strength of the four finalists, we believe we are in an excellent position to improve USA Basketball's administrative operations, our basketball programs and the services we deliver to our teams and to enhance our mission of developing the sport of basketball at all levels of the game. We look forward to our discussions with each of the finalists as we proceed to the next stage of this process."
USA Basketball will make site visits to the finalist cities over the next two months, and will make a public announcement regarding its future location plans during the summer of 2008. Wasserman Media Group Consulting has been retained to assist USA Basketball with the relocation evaluation process.
