For the 2007 State Farm USA Basketball Challenge, the USA Senior National Team will be divided for a Blue-White game. Kevin Durant and Greg Oden, who most believe will be the top two picks in this year’s NBA Draft, will be participating. A number of veteran players who weren’t able to compete last summer - Kobe Bryant, Michael Redd, Chauncey Billups, and others - are going to make it a very, very competitive game. “When you look at the amount of talent on the floor at any one time, I think fans will be in for a real treat.” “The State Farm USA Basketball Challenge will give basketball fans a rare chance to see many of the best players in the world compete on two teams and against one-another in what we will be approaching as a serious and meaningful game,” said USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski. The USA Basketball Men’s Senior National Team will conduct a mini-training camp July 20-21 in Las Vegas, culminating with the 2007 State Farm USA Basketball Challenge on Sunday, July 22. The July mini-camp will be utilized to determine finalists for the USA squad that will compete Aug. 22-Sept. 2 in the FIBA Americas Championship 2007, which is also being staged in Las Vegas. The USA’s July 20-22 training camp will feature all available members of the USA Basketball Men’s Senior National Team. Upon completion of the mini-camp, finalists will be announced for the USA squad that will compete in the FIBA Americas Championship 2007. The selected USA finalists, following a three-week break, will reconvene in Las Vegas on Aug. 13 for the start of the final phase of the team’s 2007 training. The USA team will train daily Aug. 13-21 in preparation for the FIBA Americas Championship 2007. USA Basketball announced May 23 that seven Senior National Team members would not be available this summer because of injuries and included Arenas, Johnson, Brad Miller, Odom, Paul, Pierce and Wade. Krzyzewski is head coach of the USA Senior Team program. Serving as assistant coaches are Syracuse University (N.Y.) and Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim, Phoenix Suns head mentor Mike D’Antoni and Portland Trail Blazers head coach Nate McMillan.
