Finals Set at 2007 USRowing Youth National Championships

Finals are now set at the 2007 USRowing Youth National Championships following the completion of Saturday’s semifinals at Harsha Lake in Batavia, Ohio. National champions in 16 events will be crowned on Sunday beginning at 8 a.m.
In the women’s eight, Maritime Rowing Club crossed the finish line with the fastest time of the semifinals. Racing in the semifinal one, Maritime clocked a 6:53.23 to finish more than five seconds ahead of Long Beach Junior Crew. St. Louis Rowing Club finished third in a 7:00.20 earning a spot in Sunday’s final. In the second semifinal, Everett Rowing Association edged Phillips Exeter Academy by 0.35 seconds to win the race. Everett finished in a 7:00.64, with Exeter following in a 7:00.99. St. Ignatius Crew grabbed finished third to stake its claim to the last place in the final.
In the men’s eight, Capital Crew recorded the fastest time of the semifinals, coming home in a 6:06.63 to finish more than two seconds ahead of Green Lake Crew’s time of 6:08.72. Westerville Rowing Club also advanced. In the other semi, Pacific Rowing Club clocked a 6:09.37 to defeat Mt. Baker Rowing and Sailing Center by 0.14 seconds. Everett Rowing Association finished third.
Steel City Rowing Club’s Suzanne Maddamma recorded the fastest time of the semifinals of the women’s single sculls. Racing in the first semifinal, the 2006 Junior National Team member clocked an 8:44.74 to finish nearly 19 seconds ahead of Miami Beach Rowing Club’s Natalie Eisermann in second place. Eisermann crossed the finish line with a time of 9:03.73, edging California Yacht Club’s Faith O’Hanlon by 0.07 seconds. In the second semifinal, Tempe Junior Crew’s Erin Crawford clocked an 8:54.81 to finish nearly seven seconds ahead of Craftsbury Sculling Center’s Emily Dreissigacker. HB Rowing’s Schiro finished third to claim the last spot in tomorrow’s final.
Rowing unaffiliated, James Hills clocked the fastest time of the men’s single sculls semifinals. Hills won the first race with a time of 7:46.21, finishing more than seven seconds ahead of Saratoga High School’s Elihu Reynolds. Detroit Boat Club’s Jason Koch finished third. In the second semifinal, Miami Rowing and Watersports Center’s Robin Prendes defeated Moses Brown School’s Erich Schultze by nearly three seconds. Prendes finished with a time of 7:50.85, with Schultze crossing the line in a 7:53.50. GMS Rowing Center’s Kynan Reelick placed third in a 7:53.78, finishing 0.32 seconds ahead of the fourth-place finisher.
Dallas Rowing Club easily recorded the fastest time of the semifinals in the lightweight women’s double sculls. Dallas finished in an 8:04.99, more than 11 seconds ahead of Holy Spirit High School. Lake Stevens Rowing Club came in third. In the other semifinal, GMS Rowing Center finished with a time of 8:22.84, less than one second ahead of New Canaan High School Crew Club and less than two seconds ahead of California Yacht Club.
In the men’s lightweight double sculls, Malvern Preparatory School finished with the fastest time of the semifinals Malvern clocked a 7:15.92 to finish less than three seconds ahead of Warwick High School. Conestoga High School placed third. Vancouver Lake Crew won the other semifinal in a 7:20.79, followed by Conestoga High School and Miami Beach Rowing Club.
In the second semifinal of the women’s double sculls, Sammamish Rowing Association came home in a 7:55:46 to record the fastest time of the two races. Sammamish finished more than five seconds ahead of California Yacht Club and Lake Stevens Rowing Club. Narragansett Boat Club won the other semifinal with a time of 7:56:66. Navesink River Rowing finished second with an 8:00:45, followed by Stanton College Preparatory School.
Marin Rowing Association finished with the fastest time in the semifinals of the men’s double sculls, clocking in with a 7:00:15 to defeat Christian Brothers Academy by more than 10 seconds. St. Louis Rowing Club won the other heat with a time of 7:05:38. Malvern Preparatory School followed in a 7:08:92. Delta Blades and Maclay School also earned spots in tomorrow’s final.
Racing in the first of two semifinals of the lightweight women’s eight, Los Gatos Rowing Club stroked the fastest time of the afternoon in defeating Mount Saint Joseph Academy. Los Gatos finished with a time of 7:14.22, followed by Mount Saint Joseph in a 7:18.98. Westerville Rowing Club finished third. In the second semifinal, Marin Rowing Association won with a time of 7:19.27. Community Rowing, Inc., finished more than four seconds behind in second place, followed by Notre Dame Academy Crew.
In the women’s quadruple sculls, Austin Rowing Club Juniors won the first semifinal with a time of 7:35:58, followed by Oregon Association of Rowers in a 7:43:74. Episcopal School of Dallas finished in third with a 7:45:80. In heat two, Conestoga High School captured first with a 7:37:22, followed by Quad City Rowing Association less than a second behind. Third was taken by Lakeside School Crew, who finished with a time of 7:41:04.
The first semifinal of the women’s four with coxswain was captured by Peddie School with a time of 7:34:61. Mt. Baker Rowing and Sailing Center finished second in a 7:40:44, followed by Groton School. Pocock Rowing Center finished first in the second race with a time of 7:39:13, more than 10 seconds ahead of Pomfret School.
In the men’s four with coxswain semifinals, Belmont Hill School clocked the fastest time of the day by winning the second race in a 6:54:83. Lakeside School Crew followed in second with a time of 6:57:67. Ann Arbor Pioneer High School Crew finished third. In the first semifinal, Groton School took home the victory in a 6:57:69, followed by San Diego Rowing Club in a 6:58:93. Wayland Weston Crew was able to capture third, finishing with a time of 7:00:23.
NorCal Crew and Wayland Weston Crew rowed nearly identical times in winning the two semifinals of the lightweight women’s four with coxswain. NorCal won the first race in a 7:54:96, finishing more than four seconds ahead of Stanford Rowing Center. Wayland Weston crossed the finish line with a time of 7:54:56, finishing less than two seconds ahead of Cincinnati Junior Rowing Club. Holy Names Academy finished a close third.
In one of the closest races of the day, St. Andrew Rowing Club edged Everett Rowing Association by 0.04 seconds to win the first semifinal of the lightweight men’s eight. St. Andrew finished with a time of 6:21.96, while Everett crossed the line in a 6:22.00. St. Augustine Prep finished third, another 1.6 seconds back. Canisius High School won the other semifinal in a 6:20:37, followed by St. Joseph’s Prep and McCallie.
In the men’s quadruple sculls, Malvern Prep and Maritime Rowing Club, who finished first and second in the event last year, won the two semifinals. Malvern Prep won the first race by nearly four seconds, crossing the finish line in a 6:39.67 ahead of Detroit Boat Club and North Allegheny High School. Maritime finished with the fastest time of the semifinals, winning the second race in a 6:37.61. Pocock Rowing Center and Cincinnati Country Day School took second and third, respectively, to advance to tomorrow’s finals.
