U.S. InLine National Team Tops Austria, 10-1, at 2007 IIHF InLine Hockey World Championship

PASSAU, Germany – Behind a six-goal third quarter, the U.S. InLine National Team defeated Austria by a 10-1 score today in the second preliminary round game for both teams at the 2007 International Ice Hockey Federation InLine Hockey World Championship.

Brian Yingling (Johnstown, Pa.) recorded three goals and an assist, while Thomas Bruce (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) tallied a pair of goals and J.P. Beilsten (St. Louis, Mo.) added a goal and two assists to lead Team USA.

“I was proud of how our guys stuck to the game plan,” said Darren Turcotte, head coach of Team USA. “We played the same way throughout the entire game and did a great job controlling the puck. This sets up a big game tomorrow against Germany. We have to continue to receive contributions from our entire team and strive to get better every day.”

Each team recorded a power-play goal in the first quarter. Yingling notched his first tally of the game at 3:58, while Austria’s Michael Pollross beat Team USA netminder Jeff Reynaert (Sterling Heights, Mich.) at the 5:12 mark.

Bruce recorded his first goal of the contest at the 6:30 mark of the second quarter, while Yingling added his second tally :15 later. Greg Thompson (Long Island, N.Y.) made it a 4-1 game after two quarters with a goal at 8:39.

Team USA went on to score six goals during the third quarter to take control of the game. Yingling completed the hat trick at 2:23, followed by an Aaron Moss power-play tally at 4:01. Bruce notched his second goal of the contest at 5:30, while Beilsten and Jami Yoder (Elizabethtown, Pa.) recorded goals at 7:10 and 9:25. Derek Kern (Smithtown, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with a power-play tally at 11:27 to give Team USA a 10-1 advantage.

Reynaert earned the victory in net for Team USA after stopping 17-of-18 shots, while Mark Costanza (Arlington Heights, Ill.) came on in relief and made five saves during a scoreless fourth quarter.

The United States finished 3-for-6 on the power play, while Austria was 1-for-7 with the man advantage.

Team USA will next face Germany on Tuesday (May 29) at 8:00 p.m. (local time)/2:00 p.m. (EDT) in the final preliminary round game for both teams.

NOTES: Yingling leads Team USA with six points (5-1) in two games . . . The U.S. InLine National Team holds a 7-0-0 record against Austria at the IIHF InLine Hockey World Championship, dating back to the 2000 event . . . Team USA outshot Austria by a 46-23 margin in the game . . .
