U.S. InLine National Team Drops 4-3 Decision to Czech Republic in Opener at 2007 IIHF InLine Hockey World Championship

PASSAU, Germany – The U.S. InLine National Team dropped a 4-3 decision to the Czech Republic today in the opening game for both teams at the 2007 International Ice Hockey Federation InLine Hockey World Championship. Brian Yingling (Johnstown, Pa.) scored two goals for Team USA and Derek Kern (Smithtown, N.Y.) added two assists, but the Czech Republic notched a goal with two seconds remaining in the contest to claim the victory.

“I thought we came out strong and played well, but unfortunately we let them back into the game,” said Darren Turcotte (Brentwood, Tenn.), head coach of Team USA. “We have a veteran team, and I expect us to bounce back against Austria.”

Yingling opened the scoring :15 into the contest, followed by an Aaron Moss (Denver, Colo.) tally at 1:04 to give Team USA an early 2-0 advantage. The Czech Republic’s Martin Piecha cut the United States’ lead in half before the end of the quarter with a tally at 11:30.

Yingling notched his second tally of the game, and the only goal of the second quarter, off a feed from Kern at the 6:39 mark to give Team USA a 3-1 lead.

The Czech Republic tied the game after three quarters on goals from Josef Fojtek and Martin Koudelka at 1:56 and 5:58.

With time winding down in the fourth quarter, Team USA netminder Jeff Reynaert (Sterling Heights, Mich.) made the initial save on a Czech Republic rush, but the rebound was picked up by Koudelka behind the goal. Koudelka threw the puck in front of the net, where it caromed off a U.S. defender and into the goal for the game-winner at 11:58.

Team USA will next face Austria on Monday (May 28) at 8:00 p.m. (local time)/2:00 p.m. (EDT).
