Cohen Wins Bronze at Brazil World Cup

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Aaron Cohen (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / NYAC / Cohen’s Judo) won a bronze medal in the 81kg division at the Brazil World Cup on Monday in Belo Horizonte.
Cohen defeated an opponent from Uruguay in his first match before losing to former Pan Am medalist Rubert Martinez (CUB) by a koka (smallest points).
In the bronze medal match Cohen choked out 2006 Pan Am medalist Emanuel Lucenti (ARG) to win the match.
Last year’s Pan Am bronze medalist in the 70kg division, Katie Mocco (Glenville, N.Y. / NYAC / USA Judo National Training Site at the Jason Morris Judo Center) fought in the 78kg division in Brazil, losing matches to Edinanci Da Silva (BRA), a two-time World medalist and 2006 Pan Am Champion, as well as Lorena Briceno (ARG), a 2006 Pan Am bronze medalist.
