Nott Cunningham finishes in seventh at Weightlifting Worlds

Vancouver, B.C. - Team USA's Tara Nott Cunningham finished seventh in the 48 kg. weight class at the 2003 Weightlifting World Championships on Saturday, Nov. 15. Nott's combined total for the snatch and the clean and jerk was 175 kg.
Cunningham won the gold medal at 48 kg. at the 2000 Sydney Games, the inaugural Olympics for women's weightlifting. She won the Pan Am Games and the U.S. National Championships this year in her weight class.
Jodi Wilhite, the other American competing at 48 kg., finished 20th with a combined total of 150 kg. China's Mingjuan Wang took home the gold, lifting a combined total of 200 kg.
The results of the 2003 Weightlifting World Championships, which run from Nov. 14-22, determine how many Olympic spots each participating country will get for the 2004 Athens Games.
On Monday, Team USA's Carissa Gordon will compete in the women's 63 kg. weight class and Chad Vaughn will compete in the men's 77 kg. weight class. Visit the official 2003 Weightlifting World Championships website for complete results.
