USA Water Ski Announces Selections To 2008 U.S. Veteran Water Ski Teams

POLK CITY, Fla. – USA Water Ski has announced the selections to three U.S. Veteran Water Ski Teams that will represent the United States in international competitions in 2008.
The 2008 U.S. Pan American Championships Veteran 1 and Veteran 2 Water Ski Teams will compete in the Pan American Water Ski Championships, July 21-23, in Medellin, Colombia, and the U.S. World Senior Trophy Water Ski Team will compete in the World Senior Trophy, Sept. 8-14, in Toledo, Spain. The American Water Ski Association’s International Activities Committee made the selections based on the athletes’ performances at the 2007 GOODE Water Ski National Championships. For the World Senior Trophy, the respective age categories are as follows: Veteran 1: 35-44 years inclusive; Veteran 2: 45-54 years inclusive; and Veteran 3: 55 years and over. The Pan American Water Ski Championships only includes two age groups, Veteran 1: 35-44; and Veteran 2: 45 and over.
Athletes selected to the U.S. World Senior Trophy Team were: Marc Shaw (Winter Park, Fla.), Veteran Men 1; Brenda Baldwin (Windermere, Fla.), Veteran Women 1; Steve Raybourne (Georgetown, Tenn.), Veteran Men 2; Rondi Lang (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Mary Koenig (Waterford, Mich.), Veteran Women 2; Stan Switzer (Mulberry, Fla.) and Dennis Longo (Coral Gables, Fla.), Veteran Men 3; and Leza Harrison (Chuluota, Fla.), Veteran Women 3. Jody Johnson (Conyers, Ga.), Veteran Men 1, was selected as the first alternate.
Baldwin, Johnson and Shaw also were selected to the U.S. Pan American Championships Veteran 1 Water Ski Team, along with Eric Anderson (Crystal Lake, Ill.). Harrison, Lang and Raybourne also were selected to the U.S. Pan American Championships Veteran 2 Water Ski Team, along with Darren Janzig (Center City, Minn.).
The American Water Ski Association is one of nine sport disciplines of USA Water Ski. USA Water Ski was formed in 1939 as a non-profit organization promoting water skiing in the United States. USA Water Ski is affiliated with the International Water Ski Federation (world governing body) and is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee and Pan-American Sports Organization as the national governing body of organized water skiing in the United States. With more than 20,000 members, USA Water Ski is the largest water ski federation in the world.
