Perry Goes for Another Gold
OSAKA, Japan - Michelle Perry defends her world title in the women's 100m hurdles while Team USA seeks its first medal in 20 years in the men's 1,500m during Wednesday competition at the 2007 IAAF World Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Perry (Santa Clarita, Calif.) is joined by Ginnie Powell (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Lolo Jones (Baton Rouge, La.) as Team USA seeks a multi-medal performance in the hurdles.
Two Americans will appear in a pair of other finals Wednesday night, with Dee Dee Trotter (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Mary Wineberg (Cincinnati, Ohio) in the women's 400. Trotter will aim to improve on her fifth-place finish at the 2005 World Championships, while Wineberg competes in her first major final.
The men's 1,500m final features two-time Olympic medalist Bernard Lagat (Tucson, Ariz.) and three-time USA outdoor champion Alan Webb, who competes in his second World Outdoor final.
Key events with qualifying rounds include the men's long jump, men's 110m hurdles and the women's 200m. In the men's hurdles, David Payne takes the roster spot of Dominique Arnold, who withdrew due to an Achilles injury. Men's 200m and 400m competition continues with the semifinal rounds.
