Hoffa named Athlete of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS – Reese Hoffa has been named USA Track & Field’s Athlete of the Week (July 30 – August 5) after winning the men’s shot put Friday at the Norwich Union Super Grand Prix meet in London, England.
The reigning World Indoor and U.S. Outdoor champion, Hoffa won the competition on his last throw with a monster personal best of 22.43 meters/73 feet 7.25 inches, which is the best in the world this year. Hoffa's previous career-best toss of 22.11m/72-6.50 came in winning the gold medal at the 2006 World Indoor Championships in Moscow. Hoffa’s mark moved him into the #11 spot on the all-time performer’s list.
Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
