TRACK and FIELD - Henning named Athlete of the Week

01-03-2006 Contact: Melvin Jackson II Communications Coordinator USA Track & Field 317-713-4670 INDIANAPOLIS - Walt Henning has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after setting a national junior class record in the 25-pound weight throw at the Brown Invitational in Providence, Rhode Island. A finalist at the 2005 IAAF World Youth Championships in Morocco, Henning tossed 23.45 meters/76 feet, 11.25 inches to set a national junior class record in the 25-pound weight throw. Henning, a junior at St. Anthony's HS in South Huntington, N.Y., bettered the previous record of 23.21m/76-1.75 set in 2003 by Leif Arrhenius (Orem, Utah). Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week. 2006 USATF Athlete of the Week Winners: January 3, Walt Henning.
