Heath, Darrick
- Fourteen year veteran of the U.S. National Team
- 1996 Olympian at the Atlanta Olympics where he led the U.S. in assists and was second in scoring
- Bronze medalist at the 1996 Pan American Championships
- Three-time member of Pan American Games Team Handball team (1991, 1995, and 1999)
- Has played professional Team Handball in Hungary, Sweden, and Austria
- Member of the Garden City (N.Y.) National Championships team in 1988, 1989, 1992, and 1993
- Named U.S. Team Handball Male Athlete of the Year in 1993
- Participated in 1989, 1993, and 1995 Olympic Festivals in which his team won gold all three times
- Was struck by a drunk driver on Feb. 11, 2003 while driving his SUV suffering a fractured vertebra in his lower back
- Played NCAA Div II basketball at Long Island University where he recieved All-ECAC conference honors
- Holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology/criminal law from Long Island University
- Still plays an occassional game of hoops, and "I can definitely still hold my own on the court."
- Believes he was born to play Team Handball, it just took him awhile to find it, and would take playing professional handball over the NBA anyday
Team Handball is the greatest sport you’ve never seen! It’s a combination of pure excitement, head rush, physicality of hockey, speed of basketball, finesse of something like tennis. You can always describe it with sports like soccer or water polo, but you have to really see it to appreciate it. A description doesn’t really give it justice.
