Table tennis captures first medal
By Linda Luchetti // USOC Media Services // September 22, 2004
Capturing the first medal for the U.S. in table tennis at the 2004 Paralympic Games, Tahl Leibovitz (Elmhurst, N.Y.) completed his quest for hardware, clinching bronze in men’s Class 9 singles competition.
Playing with aggressiveness and a well-executed strategy, Leibovitz swept Gyula Zborai of Hungary, 3-0. After the match, Leibovitz said he was glad to put his best game together when it mattered most.
The bronze marks the second Paralympic medal in Leibovitz’s career, as he won gold in the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta. His medal quest continues Thursday as he joins forces with Wayne Lo (Sunnyvale, Calif.) in the men’s Class 9 Team event.
