USA women win second straight at 2008 World Seniors

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - The USA women have started a win streak at the 2008 World Senior Championships in Vierumaki, Finland.

The USA women's team of Pam Oleinik (Brookfield, Wis.), Laurie Rahn (Lake Forest, Ill.), Susan Curtis (Rogers, Ark.) and Jo Ann Matthews (New Berlin, Wis.) handed New Zealand's Liz Matthews rink a 13-1 loss to improve to 2-2 in the round robin standings. Six teams are tied with 2-2 records for third place. Finland leads the pack with a perfect 4-0 record followed by Canada, which dropped its first match this morning. The U.S. women will play the defending world champions from Sweden (2-2) in the afternoon match.

On the men's side, USA's David Russell rink improved to 4-1 with a shutout win over Gisli Kristinsson's team from Iceland. Russell (La Crosse, Wis.) and teammates Bill Rhyme (Green Bay, Wis.), Mark Swandby (Madison, Wis.), Dave Carlson (Portage, Wis.) and Mike Fraboni (McFarland, Wis.) scored five points with the last rock advantage in the second end and then stole single in the next three ends prompting the Icelanders to concede the match. The USA men return to action on Wednesday with games against Norway (0-4) and Finland (4-0).
