(GRAFTON, N.D.) - Ohio's Robb Borland rink scored six points in the fourth end en route to a 9-8 win over the defending champions from Seattle Monday night the 2007 U.S. Mixed National Championship at the Grafton Curling Club in Grafton, N.D.
Borland (Kent, Ohio) and teammates Elizabeth Pauna (Liberty, Ind.), Darryl Younggren (Grafton, N.D.) and Jean Borland (Kent, Ohio) held off Brady Clark's team in the latter ends as the four-time champion scored three in the seventh end to close the gap to 7-5. Ohio scored one in the eighth and held their breath as Washington hung a deuce in the ninth and stole one in the 10th end nearly forcing an extra end.
Team Ohio, which added Younggren at the start of the competition after the team's original second, Mark Lazar, was unable to travel with the team, is now 1-1 in the standings and will play Alaska's Steve Shuttleworth at 12:30 p.m. today.

Gulseth answered with one in the fifth and a steal in the sixth but would be kept off the scoreboard for a 9-2 win for Shuttleworth and his Fairbanks teammates Cathy Shuttleworth, Dennis Thies and Lacy Birklid.
