Chris Peters Named USA Hockey's 2007-08 Brian Fishman Intern

USA Hockey announced today that Chris Peters (Chicago, Ill.) has been named the recipient of the ninth annual Brian Fishman Internship. The Iowa State University graduate will begin his duties in USA Hockey’s media and public relations department June 25.

The internship, established in 1999 in honor of the late Brian Fishman, is given annually to an outstanding college graduate pursuing a career in athletic media relations. Fishman served as the manager of marketing and communications for USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program in 1998-1999. He passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 7, 1999 at age 28.

Peters’ responsibilities will include providing assistance with various media and public relations projects, including feature writing for USA Hockey Magazine.

“Chris typifies the integrity, enthusiasm, and passion for hockey that so distinguished Brian, and I am confident he will be a strong asset to USA Hockey,” said Barry Fishman (Potomac, Md.), Brian’s father. “Brian’s mother, Ruth, and I are pleased to welcome Chris to the tradition of excellence that the internship has come to represent.”

Peters, a journalism and mass communications major, worked with the Iowa State men’s hockey team of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) in a number of capacities, including director of media operations. He served as play-by-play broadcaster and producer of the team’s radio webcast and hosted the team’s weekly TV show on Iowa State’s student channel. Also, Peters provided hockey coverage for www.CycloneNation.com. In his final semester with the Cyclone hockey team, he was named assistant general manager and handled marketing, promotions, public relations, media relations and sales duties.

Peters is the first Brian Fishman Intern from the ACHA, which is the governing body of college club hockey.

Previous Brian Fishman Interns include Craig Stancher (Calumet, Mich.) in 2006-2007 from Michigan Tech University, Alex Clark (Glenview, Ill.) in 2005-2006 from Colgate University, Christy Jeffries (White Lake, Mich.) in 2004-2005 from Boston University, Caitlin Lazaro (Effingham, N.H.) in 2003-2004 from University of New Hampshire, Seth Cole (Blue Hill, Maine) in 2002-2003 from St. Michael’s College, Yariv Amir (Plainsboro, N.J.) in 2001-2002 from Colgate University, Cassie Maxton (Vandalia, Ohio) in 2000-2001 from Miami (Ohio) University and the inaugural recipient, Jennifer Dame (St. Louis Park, Minn.) in 1999-2000 from St. Cloud State University.
