U.S. women top Finland 7-3

The United States scored five goals in the third period to overcome a 3-1 deficit to post a 6-3 win over Finland Tuesday evening to capture the women’s ice hockey pool B title with a 3-0 mark to gain a semi-final match Friday against Sweden at the Palasport Olimpico.
Katie King’s (Brookline, Mass.) unassisted goal with 18:32 left in regulation tied the game at 3-3 as Angela Ruggiero (Harper Woods, Mich.) gave the United States the lead for good with another unassisted goal with 9:44 left in the game.
Natalie Darwitz (Eagan, Minn.) scored on a power play goal with 8:59 left on an assist by Lyndsay Wall (Churchville, N. Y.). Krissy Wendell scored with 7:42 remaining in the third period on an assist by Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass) and Ruggiero, who scored over four minutes later to make it 7-3. Darwitz and Kelly Stephens (Seattle, Wash.) assisted on the play.
The United States’ first two goals were scored by Parsons as her power play tally in the first period with assists by Wendell and Jenny Potter (Edina, Minn.) tied the game at 1-1 with 11:52 left. With Finland leading 3-1 in the second period, Parsons scored her second goal on an assist by Julie Chu (Fairfield, Conn.) with 66 seconds left before the second intermission.
Canada won Pool A with a 3-0 mark and will play Finland in the semi-finals Friday. Sweden advanced to the medal round with a 2-1 record after losing 8-1 earlier Tuesday to Canada.
