FIGURE SKATING: U.S. Figure Skating and Conner Entertainment Bring U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships to Nearly 25 Million Households

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Dec. 2, 2005) — U.S. Figure Skating has partnered with Conner Entertainment (Phoenix, Ariz.) to bring the U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships to a national television audience for the first time in the history of the sport.

Conner, in cooperation with California Image Associates (Sacramento, Calif.), will serve as executive producer for two one-hour programs that will air on Comcast in several markets, Altitude and Local Fox in Hawaii. In all, the broadcasts will reach nearly 25 million households.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for up-and-coming skaters to show the fans of the sport that the future is bright for U.S Figure Skating,” producer Andy Kreiser said. “Conner Entertainment is excited to be a part of this pioneering broadcast, and we are looking forward to producing a compelling program that best exemplifies all that is great about the sport.”

The broadcast will be aired on CN8 (7 million households), CSN-Chicago (4.1 million households), CSN-West (2.2 million households), Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (4.5 million households), Comcast Local (1.3 million households in the Detroit area), Altitude Sports & Entertainment (3.5 million households) and KHON 2 FOX-Hawaiian Islands (0.5 million households).

“CN8 has become America’s top regional cable network for amateur figure skating,” said CN8 Sports Vice President Jon Gurevitch. “And we’re delighted, not only to be carrying the U.S. Juniors Championships, but to have helped get the event on many of the other Comcast regional networks across the nation. If you get to see these shows, you’re in for a real treat.”

CN8’s Lou Tilley will serve as the host for the broadcast, along with 1994 Olympic silver medalist Nancy Kerrigan, who will provide expert skating analysis. Additional markets and broadcast dates may still be added at a later date.

“We are excited to shine the spotlight on some of our top young skaters through this partnership with Conner Entertainment,” U.S. Figure Skating Executive Director David Raith said. “Many of the skaters that our fans will meet for the first time through these broadcasts have the potential to be our future stars.”

The 2005 U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships, held Nov. 30-Dec. 3 at the Ice Centre at the Promenade in Westminster, Colo., is the U.S. Championship competition for juvenile and intermediate skaters and is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating. Approximately 360 skaters from around the country compete in the event that has been held annually since 1991.
