SPISSKA NOVA VES, Slovakia – Apolo Anton Ohno earned his third overall World Cup short track title in five years with a stellar performance in the final World Cup stop of the 2004-2005 season.
Ohno won the season title with 200 points, six ahead of Canada’s Mathieu Turotte. South Korea’s Hyun-Soo Ahn finished third with 193 points.
In Slovakia, Ohno won the 1,000 meters (1:32.362), 1,500 meters (2:15:353) and the 5,000-meter relay (6:46.801) with teammates Rusy Smith, Mike Kooreman and Jordan Malone. Ohno also finished second in the 3,000-meter final in a photo finish. Korean Hyun-Soo Ahn won in 5:15.453 to 5:15.465.
For Ohno, the performance in Slovakia sealed the deal on four season-ending titles: the World Cup overall and all three individual races, the 500, 1,000 and the 1,500, which duplicates his four-for-four feat from the 2000-2001 season.
On his career, Ohno has won the overall title three times and seven individual event titles.

Ohno's performance mirrored that of the entire U.S. team. Ohno improved his standing in every single category and so did his teammates.
- Rusty Smith moved from 20th overall from last season to sixth overall this year.
- Allison Baver made a massive move up the charts. Baver finished 2004-2005 in sixth-place overall, including a fourth-place standing in the 1,500-meters. For the past three seasons, Baver has ranked 19th, 14th, and 16th in the overalls.
- Newcomer Hyo-Jung Kim made her impact felt immediately on the U.S. National Team. Kim finished the season ranked seventh in the overall, sixth in the 500m, seventh in the 1000m and eighth in the 1500m.
- The duo of Baver and Kim had the best showing for American women since Amy Peterson and Erin Porter finished 6-7 in the 1998-1999 season.
- And looming on the outside of the rink was Shani Davis, who ranked 16th in the world overall despite only competing in three of the World Cup events. Davis could make history in Torino by competing in both short track and long track speedskating.
