Ellis underwent successful surgery

U.S. Skeleton Athlete Kevin Ellis (Dallas, TX), who sustained a fracture and dislocation of a vertebrae in his middle back in a non-competition accident last night in Sestriere, underwent surgery this morning (Friday, Feb. 24) at CTO Hospital in Torino.  USOC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jim Sterling said "the surgery was successful with no complications and Kevin is expected to make a full and complete recovery."

Ellis is a 32-year-old accountant from Dallas who finished 17th in the men’s skeleton competition at the Games.

"I feel very lucky that things went well for me," Ellis said.  "I’d like to thank the USOC medical staff, the support staff—especially Fiona Tibone from the USOC, and the staff at CTO hospital.  I will take the rehab and recovery one step at a time.  Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers."

According to USOC Director of Sports Medicine Ed Ryan, Ellis will be moved from recovery some time today and will probably remain in the hospital for a week  When it’s safe for him to travel home, he’ll be returned to Dallas.  The USOC medical staff will be with him during every step of the way
