US Speedskating Announces 2008 World Team

December 23, 2007- Kearns, UT. US Speedskating is proud to announce the US Short Track Speedskating World Team. The team was selected through the US Short Track Speedskating Championships this weekend at the Utah Olympic Oval. Skaters from around the country competed for the top 5 positions which not only rank them in the US, but qualify them for the World Championships in South Korea, March 7-9.
Junior and first year National Team Member Katherine Reutter did a stand out job, earning the Gold Medal in every single distance she skated. This winning streak also earned her the title of U.S. Ladies National Champion.
Apolo Anton Ohno did not disappoint his fans, taking Gold medals in the 1000m and 1500m, as well as Silver in the 3000m. Ohno was disqualified in the 500m event.

“It was a weekend of outstanding competition,” said US Speedskating Executive Director, Bob Crowley, “we are looking forward to seeing what this team does in the next two months.”
Also selected through this competition was the World Cup Team. This team includes the skaters who made the World Team, as well as an additional member, the skater ranked number 6, Tina Koenig, North Ridgeville, OH, for the ladies and Simon Cho, Laurel, Maryland, for the men. These athletes will represent the United States at the World Cup #5 in Quebec City, Canada February 1-3, and World Cup #6 in Salt Lake City, UT, February 8-10.
