When it comes to Deal or No Deal-----FREDRICKS IS THE REAL DEAL

(Calgary, Canada; March 3, 2007) With the sprint events of the ISU World Cup in Calgary completed, Tucker Fredricks from the USA (Janesville, WI/ Salt Lake City, UT.) has once again stepped up on the podium this time as the newly crowned 500m World Cup Champion while showcasing his gold cup and a personal best time.

After a stellar performance on Friday, when he won the first 500m race of the two race series, Fredricks had a huge spike in his confidence. However prior to the races his training seemed a little off.

Ryan Shimabukuro, US Speedskating National Team Sprint Coach said, "We really didn't know what to expect since his training for the last month has been designed for the World Single Distances Championships next week in Salt Lake City. He's been a little tired lately but our goal was to use these races here to snap up for next weekend. He skated a very smooth race, but still has areas that can be improved on. Anytime a skater sets a personal best time, it's never a bad thing so we'll take it."

Fredricks won the World Cup ahead of Keiichiro Nagashima (2nd place/ JPN) and Pekka Koskela (3rd place/FIN).

2006 Olympic Winter Games 1000m Champion Shani Davis (Chicago, IL.), after finishing with a silver medal in the 1000m in Calgary, showed why he was the champion and still remains the odds on favorite to win next week in Salt Lake City at the Utah Olympic Oval. A quote from Denny Morrison in the Canadian Press revealed Davis’ looming presence on and off the ice. "I was especially afraid of Shani," Morrison said. "He's the world-record holder and super-fast skater in this distance. I managed to hold him off."

Morrison also set a Canadian record, surpassing the previous low of 1:07.72 of Jeremy Wotherspoon of Red Deer, Alta.

Davis was slightly off of his world record mark of 1:07.03 set in Salt Lake City.

The US team returns to the USA to prepare for the 2007 ISU World Single Distances Championships on March 8-11, 2007.

Tickets are available at 801-968-OVAL for the ISU World Single Distances Championships 2007.

Ryan on Shani's 1000 silver: "Shani's performance today was very strong considering he hasn't done a 1000m in nearly six weeks. I think his race today set him up well for a run at the 1000m World Title. He just needs to connect a few things in his race and it will be there."

Ryan on Chris Needham's 500 & 1000: "Chris skated two personal bests today, with a lot of room for improvement. One of our goals this year was to qualify for the World Single Distances, which he accomplished today in the 1000m. There's one more 500m tomorrow but he's definitely got a shot at that distance as well."

Ryan on Chris Witty's 500 & 1000: "Chris's skating today was well executed. They were both season best times so I expect next weekend will get even better. Her experience really showed today, especially in the 1000m. It's great to see her having fun with her skating."

Ryan on Elli: "Elli has been battling off fatigue issues since we returned from our last European tour five weeks ago. It's been compounded by her getting sick a few days ago, which hasn't allowed her to give her best performance here. We decided it was best to scratch the 1000m, knowing that she would probably lose a spot for World Singles but we wanted to put her strongest effort possible in for Saturday's 500m."
