White, Bleiler win Grand Prix titles
BEND, Ore. — Shaun White made it 3-for-3 in Olympic snowboard qualifying events, while Gretchen Bleiler and Hannah Teter each essentially assured their spots on the U.S. Olympic team with their 1-2 finish in Sunday's halfpipe Grand Prix event.
White beat out Mason Aguirre by a full 1.5 points to win the third of five Grand Prix events this season, results of which will be used to pick the U.S. team.
Bleiler got her second win in the three key events. Teter added her second-place finish to a first and a fifth at the two earlier contests in Breckenridge, Colo.
Jarret Thomas, Ross Powers and Danny Kass — the American men who swept the medals at the 2002 Olympics — finished seventh, ninth and 11th, respectively.
Kelly Clark, the 2002 gold-medal winner, finished fourth after missing the first two Grand Prix events with injuries.
