Jacobellis, Wescott visit 'Today' show

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - U.S. Olympic Team hopefuls from the 2005-06 U.S. Women's National Hockey Team and several athletes from the U.S Ski Team and U.S. Snowboarding will be featured on NBC's Today Show, November 2, 2005 to mark 100 days prior to the Opening Ceremony of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy.
Today will feature the entire U.S. Women's National Hockey Team as well as U.S skiers Bode Miller (Alpine), Jeret Peterson (Freestyle Aerials), Joe Pack (Freestyle Aerials), Resi Stiegler (Alpine), Lindsey Kildow (Alpine), and snowboarders Lindsey Jacobellis (Snowboardcross and Halfpipe) and Seth Wescott (Snowboardcross).
The U.S. Women's National Hockey Team, which is currently in the middle of its Hilton Family Skate to 2006 Tour (11-game pre-Olympic schedule) will also conduct an all-day media tour after its Today Show appearance to promote the upcoming 2006 Olympic Winter Games. The 2005-06 National Team includes eight Olympians: defensemen Angela Ruggiero (Harper Woods, Mich.); and forwards Tricia Dunn (Derry, N.H.), Katie King (Salem, N.H.), Jenny Potter (Eagan, Minn.), Courtney Kennedy (Woburn, Mass.) Julie Chu (Fairfield, Conn.), Natalie Darwitz (Eagan, Minn.) and Krissy Wendell (Brooklyn Park, Minn.).
Joining the Olympians are 12 players with previous National Team experience, including goaltenders Pam Dreyer (Eagle River, Alaska), Chanda Gunn (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Megan Van Beusekom (Loretto, Minn.); defensemen Winny Brodt (Roseville, Minn.), Molly Engstrom (Siren, Wis.), Jamie Hagerman (North Andover, Mass.) and Helen Resor (Greenwich, Conn.); and forwards Kim Insalaco (Rochester, N.Y.), Kathleen Kauth (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Kristin King (Piqua, Ohio), Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) and Kelly Stephens (Seattle, Wash.). Rounding out the squad are two players who are making their first appearance on a U.S. Women's National Team: goaltender Shari Vogt (Richmond, Minn.) and defenseman Caitlin Cahow (Vinalhaven, Maine).
Throughout the day, members of the U.S. Women's National Hockey Team will visit ESPN Cold Pizza, Sirius Radio (NHL Live), XM Satellite Radio (Take 5), the New York Times and the Tony Danza Show.
Squad members will also make special visits to the New York Foundling Orphanage, the pediatric ward at the Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and participate in a public meet-and-greet at Central Park's famous Wollman Rink from 3:30-5:30 pm, where kids of all ages can skate the 30,800 square foot outdoor rink with the team. There will also be a media opportunity at the Wollman Park tent.
The athletes will end the day attending a performance of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Hilton Theater. After the show, the team will autograph a Team USA jersey to raise money for the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS campaign.
The U.S. Ski Team and U.S. Snowboarding athletes currently have a break in their competition and season prep-period and are in New York City for the Today Show as well as the annual U.S. Ski & Snowboard Ball.
The Opening Ceremony for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games will take place in Torino on February 10, 2006. Televised in the United States exclusively on NBC and its family of networks, the XX Olympic Winter Games will conclude on February 26, 2006.
